You don’t have to drink beer to get a beer belly. Men are more likely to gain fat around the waist, so anything fattening can pad the paunch. Unfortunately, belly fat raises the risk of heart disease, especially if your waist size is more than 40 inches.
Giving vitamin A supplements to children under the age of five in developing countries could save 600,000 lives a year, researchers claim.
According to a recent UC Davis study published online in BMC Cardiovascular Disorders, people with lower socioeconomic status are at greater risk of developing heart disease compared to those who are wealthier or better educated. The likelihood of heart disease persists, even with long-term progress in addressing traditional risk factors, such as smoking, high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol. Peter Franks, a UC Davis professor of family and community medicine and lead author of the study said:
Doctors may tell you to cut the fat, but not all fats are unhealthy. Omega-3 fatty acids may have far-reaching health benefits. Studies suggest they help lower the risk of heart disease, the nation’s top killer.
At first Miguel thought he had a gastroenteritis or gastrointestinal infection. His stomach hurt and he was throwing up. He wasn't hungry at all. But the next day, instead of feeling better, he felt worse. In addition to his other symptoms, he had a fever.

Iron is obtained from food and stored for use as ferritin, an iron-carrying protein. Ferritin is found mostly in the liver, but it's also present in smaller amounts in the bone marrow, spleen, and muscles.
Pleurisy is a lung disease. It means inflammation of the pleura — the thin, 2-layer protective membrane that covers the lungs and also lines the inside of the chest wall. The 2 layers are lubricated by a thin layer of fluid between them. This helps them slide easily over each other when you breathe in and out.
The air of two Midwestern US cities contains significant amounts of bacteria from feces, particularly dog poop, according to a new study led by the University of Colorado Boulder, published recently in the journal Applied and Environmental Microbiology. The researchers tested the air of four locations in the Great Lakes region, and found that, in addition to the more predictable organic sources (such as leaves and soil), fecal material, most likely from dogs, often represents an unexpected source of atmospheric bacteria in urbanized areas during the winter.
All expectant parents hope that their babies will be healthy. Yet sometimes problems arise that require a newborn to be hospitalized. When this happens, the baby may be admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for treatment.
